Since social media is, well, a social medium, it’s important that users understand the proper ways to behave online. No, just because you’re behind a computer monitor in your mom’s basement doesn’t mean all social etiquette goes out the window. It’s quite the opposite—following proper social media etiquette is a key to being successful online (and to making sure you don’t make a complete idiot out of yourself.)

Social Media Changes Small Businesses

A workshop Tuesday in Rock Hill will show how this growing worldwide phenomenon is changing the small business world. Presented by York Technical College’s Entrepreneur Network, the forum will discuss how small businesses can benefit from popular social media outlets such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

Five Social Media Marketing Stats
The December 2009 data from comScore (SCOR) were released Tuesday, and the results for the social media sector are nothing short of staggering. Fifty-four percent (112 million) of the 205 million-strong U.S. internet-user population are on Facebook, with 27% (57 million) still using News Corp.'s (NWS) MySpace. But according to data from both comScore and Experian Hitwise (EXPN), the most active users were on Tagged, MyYearbook and Orkut. And Facebook users were more active than those on MySpace.
